The City of Sports: Sports in Los Angeles, California

New Paragraph

New Paragraph

You’ve heard Los Angeles called the “city of angels”, but it really should be called the “city of sports”. Home to some of the best stadiums in the world, and 12 professional teams, Los Angeles has been gaining a reputation as the sports capital of the world. Here are some reasons why LA has come to dominate the sports world.

Why Los Angeles

Every year, millions of sports fans pour into LA to watch their favorite teams play. From football to baseball, basketball to soccer, hockey and more- there’s a sport for every fan. The question is, why? There are literally thousands of cities in the United States, so what is it about Los Angeles that makes it the perfect sports hub? We can think of a few reasons.

Great Weather

California is known for its blue skies and moderate weather. Unlike many places that experience drastic temperature fluctuations and unpredictable precipitation, in So-Cal you can almost guarantee a pleasant evening. This is important when it comes to sports, as inclement weather is a common cause for canceled games.

Great Venues

Great games deserve great stadiums, and LA has plenty of those. In fact, Los Angeles has the infrastructure to host almost any kind of big event! From the Los Angeles Coliseum to the Crypto.com Arena, the SoFi Stadium to the Rose Bowl Stadium, LA has no shortage of state-of-the art facilities to host any sport.

Media Coverage

Los Angeles made its first mark on the world as a media mecca, and that’s still true. What most people don’t realize is how important media is in the world of sports. There’s no better way to rally support for the home team than through media exposure. In a city famous for both traditional and social media, few teams get more coverage than those in LA.

Houston's

Finally, the heart and soul of every team, the fans. Fans are what keep the stadiums packed and the players motivated. The shared excitement and passion for the game creates a sense of community that benefits athletes and fans alike, and there’s no sports fan community bigger than LA. Every year LA hosts millions of cheering fans at their various stadiums, arenas, and rinks.

A big sporting city like LA is bound to host some big sporting events. Over the years, Los Angeles has witnessed many historic sporting events, both locally and internationally. As LA’s claim as a sporting city continues to grow, we can expect to see more in the future. Here are a couple of iconic sporting events we can look forward to.

Rose Bowl Tournament

Every year Los Angeles turns itself inside out for the Rose Bowl Tournament. Held at the National Historic Landmark, the Rose Bowl Stadium, the tournament of roses is a tradition reaching back over 100 years. Known as the oldest and biggest event in college football, the Rose Bowl is a must-see experience that should be on every football lover’s list. Make sure to plan ahead though; the Rose Bowl Game has been sold out every year since 1947!

Olympics

There’s nothing bigger in the sporting world than the Olympics. Athletes train their entire lives for the opportunity to “go for the gold” and prove themselves the best in the world. Los Angeles has already hosted the Summer Games in 1932 and 1984. The city will soon have the honor of hosting again in 2028.
